Have Your Say on Our Highways Strategy
Overview
Birmingham's roads, pavements, bridges, street lighting, drainage systems and other highway assets help people travel safely around the city every day. Together, they form one of the largest highway networks in the country.
Looking after this network is becoming more challenging. Much of our infrastructure is getting older, demand on our roads continues to grow, and public funding is limited. This means we need to make careful decisions about where to focus investment and maintenance.
We also have an opportunity to do things differently by using better data, new technology and more efficient ways of working. This can help us provide a safer, more reliable and more sustainable highway service for residents, communities and businesses.
Our draft Highways Asset Management Strategy sets out how we plan to manage and maintain the city's highways network in the years ahead. It explains the principles and priorities that will guide decisions about investment, maintenance and improvements.
Before the strategy is finalised, we would like to hear your views.
The draft Highways Asset Management Strategy and draft Highways Asset Management Strategy Summary documents are attached below - you are advised to read these to assist you in completing the survey.
Why your views matter
The highways network affects everyone who lives, works, studies or travels in Birmingham.
Your feedback will help us understand:
- What matters most to residents and communities.
- Which highway services and improvements should be prioritised.
- How we can make the network safer, more reliable and easier to use.
- How investment can deliver the greatest benefit for local people.
We are particularly keen to hear from people and communities whose views are not always represented in consultations.
Your feedback, along with comments from partner organisations and stakeholders, will help shape the final strategy and ensure it reflects the needs of Birmingham's diverse communities.
