Overview

PROPOSAL OF THE GOVERNING BODY

St Mary’s CE Primary School is a two form entry voluntary controlled school in the Weoley & Selly Oak ward within the Selly Oak district of the City.

The Governing Body of the school are consulting on proposals to change the status of the school from voluntary controlled(VC) to voluntary aided (VA).

The Governing Body are issuing the proposals to enable them to have more flexibility when making decisions on areas of the curriculum, governance and finance. They are not intending to make any changes to their admission policy.

If the proposal is approved, St Mary's CE Primary School plan to convert to Voluntary Aided on 1st September 2019.

Why your views matter

There is a statutory process that must be followed to make these sorts of changes to schools.

The Governing Body has completed the informal stage of the consultation and has decided to move to the next stage of the process which is the formal consultation stage, also known as the representation period.

We are keen to receive your views on this proposal. All comments received during this stage will be forwarded to the decision makers.

Full details of the changes are explained in the Governing Bodies's proposal document below.

We are keen to receive your comments on the Governing Body proposal and you can comment online here until 27th March 2019

What happens next

Within two months  of  the  end  of  the  representatioperiod  a  report  will  be produced with all of the comments received and this will be passed for consideration by the decision makers (Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Culture jointly with the  Director for Education & Skills).

Should the decision makers not come to a unanimous decision the proposal will be passed to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator for a final decision.

It is only at that point that we will be able to say with certainty that St Mary's CE will change their status from Voluntary Contolled to Voluntary Aided.

What will happen if this proposal is rejected?

If a decision is taken that the Mary's CE Primary School should not change their status from Voluntary Controlled to Voluntary Aided, the school will remian as a voluntary controlled school.

How can I make my views known?

We invite all interested parties to give us their views and comment on this proposal.

Any comments must be received no later than 27th March 2019.

We will keep you updated on the "we asked, you said, we did" section of this page at the end of the consultation.
