Sprint Phase 2 Birmingham city centre Traffic Regulation Orders
Overview
What is Sprint?
Sprint is a new, modern, high quality public transport service promoted by the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) and Transport for West Midlands (TfWM). It runs on the road with dedicated bus lanes and priority through areas of congestion, which will make journey times much more reliable.
Work on Phase 1 of Sprint was completed in 2022, and further Phase 2 improvements have recently been undertaken along the A34 between Scott Arms and New Town Row.
These final Phase 2 measures cover the city centre and are located between Lancaster Street and Moor Street Queensway.
About this consultation
This consultation is the formal advertisement of the Traffic Regulation Orders.
A Traffic Regulation Order, or TRO, is the legal documentation required to make changes to the status of the highway (road).
Public consultation on the Sprint Phase 2 Birmingham city centre proposals was undertaken by TfWM in May 2025. Birmingham City Council is now carrying out this formal, legal process before any changes can be introduced on the road itself.
During this consultation, you can make comments on the proposals or submit a formal objection (which must include the grounds for the objection).
You can make your response in one of three ways:
- Submit your response on this webpage, in the ‘Online Survey’ section (please provide your contact details as part of your response)
- Email transport.projects@birmingham.gov.uk
- Post a written objection to: Director - Infrastructure & Sustainability, Place, Prosperity and Sustainability Directorate, Birmingham City Council, PO Box 14439, Birmingham, B2 2JE.
The easiest and most convenient way to object is via this webpage.
All responses must be received by 19 March 2026.
If you have chosen to object to the proposed orders, you may be contacted by a project officer to further discuss your objection.
If you have any questions about Sprint, please contact Transport for West Midlands’s Customer Services Team on 0345 303 6760 or email customerservices@tfwm.org.uk.
