Overview

As part of Bike North Birmingham, we are developing a series of improvements to local infrastructure to serve both cyclists and walkers. We are currently consulting on proposals for what we call the Magenta route: running from the existing College Road cycle route along Witton Lodge Road towards Chester Road Station. The route then links to Wylde Green Village and into Pype Hayes Park, via Hervey Grove.

Magenta Route Proposals:
  • A shared cycling and walking path linking Hastings Road, along Witton Lodge Road, to Court Lane;
  • Link to North Birmingham Route at Maxted Road;
  • Improved crossing of Court Lane;
  • On road advisory cycle route via Goosemoor Lane;
  • Upgrading of the existing footpath between Goosemoor Lane and Gravelly Lane to provide a more suitable surface for cycling and walking;
  • Installation of a new toucan crossing on Gravelly Lane near to the Rose and Crown Public House;
  • A shared cycling and walking path linking the new toucan crossing to Bonsall Lane;
  • On road route on Bonsall Lane and upgrade of existing footpath to Knipersley Road;
  • Provision of a daytime parking restriction on Knipersley Road to prevent station parking;
  • Installation of a buildout at the junction of Knipersley Road and Chester Road to decrease crossing width;
  • Shared use of Chester Road footways and use of existing pedestrian crossing near Chester Road station;
  • On road route via Florence Road and Broadfields Road;
  • Shared use of Sutton Road footways and upgrade of existing pedestrian crossing to shared toucan crossing to link to Harman Road;
  • On-road route via Harman Road and Berwood Farm Road;
  • Shared use of footpath to Pitts Farm Estate;
  • On road route via Pitts Farm Estate roads to Pype Hayes Park;
  • Resurfacing of footway where needed to provide a more comfortable facility for pedestrians and cyclists; and
  • Directional and advisory signing along the route to compliment the scheme.
