Overview

As part of Bike North Birmingham, we are developing a series of improvements to local infrastructure to serve both cyclists and walkers. We are currently consulting on proposals for what we call the Violet route: running along Goosemoor Lane into Church Road and through to Walmley Village.

Violet Route Proposals:
  • On road advisory cycle route along Sycamore Road, Beech Road, Church Road, New Church Road, Sunnybank Road, Station Road, Eastern Road and Vesey Road;
  • Conversion of existing Chester Road pedestrian crossing to a Toucan;
  • Installation of a new toucan crossing on Boldmere Road close to St. Michaels Parish Church;
  • On road advisory cycle route along New Church Road, Sunnybank Road, Station Road, Eastern Road, Vesey Road and Wylde Green Road;
  • Use of existing pedestrian pelican crossing of Birmingham Road near Vesey Road, Wylde Green Road junction;
  • Shared use of footway on north side of Wylde Green Road, where footpath width is adequate;
  • Provision of raised table top junctions on Wylde Green Road at the junctions of Blackwell Road, East View Road and the access to Bishop Walsh RC School;
  • A gateway entry treatment on Wylde Green Road in close proximity to The Avenue, to delineate between rural and built up areas;
  • Additional on carriageway advisory cycle route linking to Walmley Village using Allendale Road and Crawford Road;
  • Shared use of Walmey Road footpath to access the existing pelican crossing;
  • Connection of Penns Lake Road to Allendale Road footpath to shared use with convex mirrors at blind corners;
  • On road route via Penns Lake Road to link to existing Penns Lane route;
  • Directional and advisory signing along the route to compliment the scheme.
