As part of Bike North Birmingham, we are developing a series of improvements to local infrastructure to serve both cyclists and walkers. We are currently consulting on proposals for what we call the Navy route: running from the existing route in Bleak Hill Park through to Erdington Shopping Centre and then up to Chester Road and Pype Hayes Park, via Grange Road.

Overview
As part of Bike North Birmingham, we are developing a series of improvements to local infrastructure to serve both cyclists and walkers. We are currently consulting on proposals for what we call the Navy route: running from the existing route in Bleak Hill Park through to Erdington Shopping Centre and then up to Chester Road and Pype Hayes Park, via Grange Road.
Navy Route Proposals:
- Off-road route through Bleak Hill Park (subject of previous consultation exercise);
- On road advisory cycle route along Balmoral Road, Highland Road and South Road;
- Shared use of footway on Summer Lane;
- Shared use of footway on Sutton New Road;
- Link to Erdington Station via on-road route along Wilton Road and Osborne Road;
- Upgrading of the existing pedestrian crossing outside Erdington Police Station, to a shared use toucan crossing;
- On-road route via Erdington Bike North Birmingham Cycle Hub on Mason Road;
- Resurfacing of footway where needed to provide a more comfortable facility for pedestrians and cyclists; and
- Directional and advisory signing along the route to compliment the scheme.
