Overview
The challenges and opportunities for Reddings Lane Park were discussed at the Hall Green North Ward Forum on 10th December at Tyseley Community Centre and following this we would like to seek your views on the potential improvements to Reddings Lane Park, also known as Greet Recreation Ground, at Reddings Lane, Tyseley.
Current Issues:
- Fly-tipping;
- Antisocial behaviour;
- Safer surfacing of the play area requires improvements;
- Existing play equipment requires maintenance i.e. re-painting;
- The lack of inclusive play equipment requires addressing;
- The number of swings needs increasing;
- Waterlogging around the park;
- Health and safety issues e.g. sports balls entering both the play area and circular path;
- Caged cricket wicket requires maintenance;
- Mature vegetation creating “hiding spaces” encouraging antisocial behaviour;
- An inability for those with mobility issues to enjoy the space as much as others; and
- Entrances being unclear.
Potential Opportunities:
- Redesign of the planting to the northwest corner to help reduce the potential antisocial behaviour;
- Brand new fencing to the northwest corner to help reduce the likelihood of fly-tipping;
- Addition of attractive new signage to create clear gateways to the park;
- Improvements to and extension of the play area;
- Addition of inclusive play equipment and seating opportunities in the play area to provide for families and children with varying needs;
- Boggy habitat creation to help with the waterlogging;
- Brand new multi-use games area (MUGA) increasing sporting options;
- Inclusion of bespoke rebound boards to the caged cricket wicket to reduce impact damage;
- Addition of new planting to the western edge to increase safety and security;
- Brand new outdoor gym;
- Brand new leisure style seating;
- Increased amount of passing places with seating opportunities; and
- Brand new drainage in problem areas around the circular path.
Please refer to the Reddings Lane Park Potential Improvements drawing at the end of this letter for our initial ideas. Subject to all approvals and a budget being identified, we estimate the construction work for the park may be able to start in late Spring /early Summer 2023.
